POLKUJA

My solo project Polkuja first came to life in 2024 as a part of my master’s studies at Sibelius Academy. The first concert was a beginning of a new musical journey!

In Polkuja-project fiddle playing meets percussive movement, when dance and stomp rhythms become a part of a musical performance. Old fiddle tunes from Finland and across the sea are taking new forms in the hands (and feet) of today’s folk musician, drawing inspiration from various dance music and folk dance traditions. Polkuja is an exploration at the border of musical and movement expression.
